BOB GOTTLIEB is the best in the business at getting kids recruited. His relationships and credibility throughout the entire USA have enabled him to place kids on full athletic scholarships at NCAA D1 schools. All scholarships at D1 schools must be full scholarships. Scholarships at NCAA D2 schools may be full or partial athletic scholarships supplemented by academic scholarship and financial aid based on need. Please visit the Recuiting Assistance Services main page to see a list of athletes that have benefitted from our services. At NCAA D3 schools are not permitted to offer athletic related aid or scholarships. However, all offer financial aid packages which combine academic scholarship, need based aid, non interest bearing loans and work study. If an athlete has over a 3.5 gpa, significant academic scholarship aid can save middle class parents $100,000 over 4 years. BOB GOTTLIEB is the best in the business at getting kids recruited. Player Name - Basketball Academy (Southern California kids only) Type written letters from college coaches mean nothing. Only hand written notes and personal phone calls indicate serious interest. #1 Coaches are allowed to begin calling rising senior athletes as of June 21, 2002. They are allowed to call once per week. If you find that you are not receiving any phone calls directly from college coaches on a regular basis, it's extremely important that you find other avenues of exposure. #2 June is a dead month in recruiting (as is August) this means that the only time college coaches can watch athletes play in off campus competition is in the month of July, and only during the 20 designated "live recruiting days". The 1st evaluation period is from July 8th to July 17th. Then there is a dead period for four days. The second evaluation period begins July 22nd and extends through July 31st. #3 Approximately 95% of all recruiting evaluations will occur at the major national traveling team tournaments held during those live evaluation periods. All-star basketball camps can be helpful however they are not anywhere near as effective as playing on a quality traveling team in the major tournaments. In most camp games there is no actual coaching. Consequently the games are like pickup games, selfishness abounds, big guys do not see the ball inside, 6'5" wings are forced to play inside surrounded by 4 guards. The real worth of camps come the last day in the all-star games. Camps average $500 per week nowadays. So for some it's productive and for others it's frustrating and disappointing. Consequently it is of crucial importance to get on a quality traveling team that is playing in the Adidas Big Time Tournament in Las Vegas held July 22-26, and a quality follow up tournament held July 27-31, like the Best of the Summer Tournament in Loyola University in Los Angeles run by the Double Pump Group. #4 When coaches do call, it's indicative of a genuine interest, but does not necessarily mean that they are prepared to offer you a scholarship. Keep in mind, that they may be calling 50 to 100 kids, where as they can only offer a maximum of 5 scholarships in any one year and a total of 8 scholarships in two years. This is commonly referred to by college coaches as the 5 and 3 rule.. #5 The only way to measure the extent of their interest is to ask them, "Are you prepared to offer me a scholarship?". How they answer the question will tell you all you need to know. If they hem and haw and make excuses or try to put it off, then that means they are interested but that they have rated a number of other kids ahead of you at the same position and they are only likely to offer you the scholarship if it's turned down by the athletes ahead of you. On the other hand, if they answer the question "Absolutely:. then you know that they are prepared to offer you a scholarship. #6 If that's the case, then you are entitled to ask for a paid campus visit in the fall. This will enable you to meet the players on the team, see the campus, get a feel for the community and also meet the entire coaching staff. In addition, they will likely ask to schedule a home visit in September. This will give the head coach a chance to visit you and your parents in your home, get to know you on a personal level, and sell his program. On the other hand, this will also give you and your family a chance to know him on a personal level. #7 Be sure and talk directly to the head coach and be certain that he is planing to be a part of your home visit. Be sure and get a feel for how the head coach views your ability and indicates how he sees how you will fit in to his program. Assistant coaches do not make any of the major decisions regarding an athletes role in a program. Only the head coach will determine his playing time and his role on the team. If you are not happy or comfortable with the head coaches philosophy or personality, you will be miserable your 4 years in his program, no mater how engaging or personable any of his assistants appear to be. Most college head coaches are extremely strong personalities no mater how personable they apart to be in your home or on the phone. You will not change them, so be sure you feel totally comfortable with the head coach before you make a decision. Signing a letter of intent is like getting married. The transfer rate of disenchanted athletes in many major conferences is over 50 percent. #8 In past years, approximately 75% of Division 1 athletes have signed in November. Consequently summer evaluations drive most of the recruiting decisions in terms of which athletes schools are going to offer scholarships to. Therefore, all players that have still found themselves being under recruited, for whatever the reason, it's more important than ever to consider Bob Gottlieb's Recruiting Assistance Service. For further information have one of your parents call at: 714-997-0380 NCAA Division I programs offer full scholarships in most cases, with the exception of the Ivy League and about half of the Patriot League. NCAA Division II programs are permitted to offer scholarships. Some do and some don't, while most times athletes are recruited at the Division II level on partial scholarships.
