ROCHESTER, NY -- Freshman guard Marcus Lowe (Anchorage, AK/Service) of the RIT men's basketball team was named the Empire 8 Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week on Monday for the week ending March 1, 2009. It is Lowe's second weekly honor of the season.

Lowe was clutch down the stretch for RIT all weekend, averaging 11 points and making the two free throws with two seconds left that sealed the win for RIT in the Empire 8 Championship on Sunday against Nazareth. Lowe scored 12 points on Saturday in the win over Utica and 10 on Sunday. He scored four points and had a key assist on Shawn Roe's 3-pointer in overtime on Sunday.

RIT (19-8) will play Salem State College (21-6) in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Division III Basketball Tournament on Friday at Widener University in Chester, Pa. Widener (22-5) will host Virginia Wesleyan (17-12) on Friday as well. The winners of the two Friday games will meet on Saturday in the second round.
